EdgeConneX cooperated with Vertiv to rigorously test the performance of large UPS systems under the extreme power demands of AI variable loads. The tests, conducted on the Vertiv™ EXL S1 UPS—designed with the same advanced architecture of Vertiv™ Trinergy™—confirmed that the UPS provides reliable power continuity and energy efficiency, meeting the rigorous needs of AI-driven data centers. This partnership highlights how Vertiv’s innovative power technologies enable EdgeConneX to transform its vision of AI-powered data centers into reality, driving digital intelligence and delivering value across industries globally.

Background:

As AI adoption accelerates, data centers face unprecedented challenges in managing higher and more dynamic power demands. EdgeConneX, a global data center provider, partnered with Vertiv, a global leader in critical infrastructure technologies to validate the performance of Vertiv™ EXL S1 UPS, Vertiv's large UPS system that shares component architecture with the recently launched Vertiv™ Trinergy™, to see how the systems perform under AI variable loads. The results demonstrated that Vertiv’s UPS solutions provide reliable power continuity and energy efficiency, enabling the resilience and performance required for AI-driven data centers. 

Results:

  • Stable output regulation: The Vertiv™ EXL S1 UPS maintained stable output voltage and current during high compute and idle cycles of AI training, maintaining consistent power delivery despite rapid fluctuations in load. 
  • Seamless power transition: The Vertiv™ EXL S1 UPS demonstrated seamless transitions between utility power and generator power, effectively managing the switch without any interruptions or power quality issues, which is critical for maintaining AI application performance. 
  • Overload capabilities: The UPS system managed overload conditions supporting the intensive processing tasks of AI without any degradation in performance.
