AI is driving demand for bigger, faster data halls, creating new opportunities to rethink how overhead infrastructure is delivered.
Compass Datacenters partnered with Vertiv engineers to deploy Vertiv™ SmartRun,an overhead prefabricated infrastructure system designed to industrialize the data center whitespace. By shifting assembly, integration, and testing into the factory, Vertiv SmartRun arrives on-site ready to install. The standardized design cuts down on-site labor, minimizes delays, and lets Compass bring data halls online faster while keeping quality consistent across every campus.
Highlights
- All-in-one overhead prefabrication: Power distribution busbars, liquid‐cooling piping network, hot-aisle containment, and network infrastructure—all pre-integrated in factory.
- Single-lift module install: Simplified install path with modules delivered ready for lift-in place, cutting field work for tasks traditionally handled by multiple trades, such as containment and piping alignment.
- Secondary fluid/stainless steel piping network: Includes a built-in fluid network, with prefabricated stainless steel piping, isolation valves, and branch control to enable reliable liquid cooling for high-density loads.
- Modular, configurable blocks: Designed with repeated, configurable segments (≈2.4 m / 8 ft blocks), able to adapt to rack height, aisle spacing, airflow, and layout types (pod, single/dual-row).
- Repeatable global deployment: Pre-assembled in Vertiv’s global factories, the system supports standardization across sites as part of a more industrialized delivery model, reducing on-site engineering review, accelerating logistics and procurement.
- Performance & labor gains: Faster on-site deployment compared to stick-build methods; fewer skilled-trade hours; capable of installing over 1 MW per day with a single crew.
