Explore North America’s approach to data center sustainability
The U.S. government has an ambitious goal: to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. If the U.S. is to achieve this goal with a backdrop of rising public consciousness on climate change and the dangers of an overheating planet in the distant future, the energy-intensive data center sector will need to lead the way on clean energy and resource stewardship.
In July 2022, the U.S. state of Rhode Island passed a law requiring all of the state’s electricity to be offset by renewable energy by 2033. It’s the most aggressive renewable energy standard among any U.S. state at the time of writing and a clear indication of the serious intent to reach the government’s goal of net zero by 2050.
