Wireless Service Provider Uses Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) to Deliver Data Seamlessly to the Edge

Delivering robust telecom networks is increasingly challenging, but increasingly vital to meeting user demands, especially at the edge of networks. See how Vertiv helped two leading wireless service providers (WSPs) deploy an energy-efficient, reliable, and cost-effective DAS network in time for a historic Super Bowl event.

Background

To meet the communication needs of the more than 70,000 fans attending the Super Bowl, two WSPs needed to power an in-building DAS network. One created an on-site headend housing three NetSure™ 721 DC Power systems with two strings of batteries, along with two battery racks with five more strings. Another provider housed their power supply in a series of Vertiv XTE enclosures.

Results

  • Rapidly deployable solutions provided high system capacity and high data throughput for reduced latency.
  • Network enabled more than 70,000 fans to communicate in real time about the historical partial power outage and half-time show.
  • Infrastructure modularity established a simple path for upgrading as exemplified by minimal network additions to support the ongoing advances in Superdome radio technology.

Case Summary
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Critical Need: Just weeks before Super Bowl XLVII, it was determined that the wireless network in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome needed to be upgraded to provide ample cellular coverage to thousands of mobile phone users attending the big event.
