Sydney, Australia [August 22, 2018] – Vertiv, formerly Emerson Network Power, today announced it has signed two new Australian partners; Queensland-based electrical services provider HazElec and Sydney-based IT infrastructure provider Powerfirm.
At the core of both new partnerships is a drive to take a leading role in the growing number of smart city initiatives taking place across enterprises and government organisations in Australia. Research from KPMG Australia last year among government, universities and industry spokespersons showed that 80 per cent of organisations had already begun their smart city journeys by 2017.[1]
HazElec has a strong reach in North Queensland’s resurging mining and other heavy industries. Partnering with Vertiv will help both organisations target the ‘industrial edge space’, notably through the deployment of robust modular data centres such as Vertiv’s SmartCabinet™.
“Mining is all about efficiency, and organisations that think with an IoT mindset can succeed here,” said Paul Fry, head of energy and power sysytems, HazElec. “Robust, secure, modular data centres are key to most efficiently powering data analytics, mobile access, 3D mapping and other digital tools mining and other heavy industrial companies require.
“Partnering with Vertiv arms us to target the IoT and smart city initiatives happening in heavy industry, education, health and more across Queensland.”
Fry also believes Vertiv and HazElec can play a role in major upgrades to government-supported critical infrastructure upgrades in North Queensland, which will help keep critical systems people rely on, including electricity and water supply, running in the event of a weather disaster such as Cyclone Yasi, which devastated the area in 2011.
Powerfirm is a data centre provider specialising in the areas of uninterruptable power supply (UPS), electrical data and cooling. The new partnership will increase Vertiv’s reach with its UPS solutions such as the recently-launched Liebert® ITA2™; and will give Powerfirm customers more choice and better value in data centre equipment and services.
“Vertiv completes our portfolio, particularly in the modular data centre space, which will give more choice to our customers as they continue development of their IoT and smart city initiatives,” said Jacques Tesson, director, Powerfirm.
“IoT and smart cities are about people connecting with each other,” said Robert Linsdell, managing director, Vertiv Australia and New Zealand. “Expectations on technology reliability are high and tolerance for failure is low, and we know that bringing infrastructure to the edge – where people are using applications and creating data – is vital to meet those demands.
“HazElec and Powerfirm share those values and together we can help businesses and government organisations create the right IoT experiences for their customers.”
