CommsConnect March 2019
5G deployment and the improvements it delivers for data throughput, ultra-low latency, and mobility is now an inevitability. But while investment in 3G and 4G technologies were fueled by staggering cell phone adoption rates by net new users across the globe, the investment in 5G technology cannot be sustained by the same market dynamic.
CriticalLink April 2019
As we started our conversations across the organization about anticipated trends in the data center for 2019, the discussion fairly quickly turned to expected proliferation of higher-powered processors and the innovative approaches to cooling those processors. Because cooling is our business, these were not new debates. We’ve been tracking increasing rack densities and the associated thermal management challenges for years, and this is the next step.
Industrial Insights March 2019
Longreach Airport has adopted a state-of-the-art data centre to help deal with the region’s unique environmental challenges – including wildlife intrusion and extreme temperatures. Vertiv, assisted by local partner Power Quality Consultants, has deployed its SmartCabinet™ at the airport.
CommsConnect January 2019
It’s 2019 and it’s definitely an exciting year for the telecoms industry. The buzz seems to be centered on the much hyped technology – 5G. Are we finally getting to see this technology roll out this year? In Asia, more than 90% of operators are already testing or rolling out some form of 5G technology. South Korea, notably, is leading the race and is expected to commercially roll out 5G this year!
CommsConnect November 2018
With focus growing on internet-connected devices and software-defined technologies, data centers are handling more computing power than ever before. Facility managers are now faced with the challenge of keeping the ‘lights on’ while cutting down costs and maximizing efficiency. But did you know that improving data center performance doesn’t necessarily entail a costly upgrade?
CommsConnect September 2018
Connected vehicles are one of the strong opportunities helping the telco industry recoup heavy investment into 5G networks. However, the jury is currently out on whether 5G will form a core part of the autonomous vehicle ecosystem.
CommsConnect July 2018
The cellular evolution increasingly has converged with the evolving IT edge, and it isn’t hard to see some parallels – not to mention progress toward a shared objective. The 5G cellular networks currently in development will rely more than ever on next-gen IT edge technologies to enable edge-dependent applications such as the Internet of Things, autonomous vehicles, and smart cities.
CriticalLink March 2019
Millions of UPS systems in data centers around the globe use various types of batteries to provide transitional backup power in the event of an unplanned outage. That means there are hundreds of millions of batteries storing vast amounts of largely unused energy scattered around the world.
CriticalLink February 2019
When Vertiv pulled together a team of experts from across the organization and around the globe to identify potential data center trends for 2019, there was plenty of discussion about power and cooling technologies, the edge network and innovative approaches to monitoring and management. There were surprises in the details, but broadly speaking, the topics were what we expected – with one notable exception.
CriticalLink January 2019
Overall it’s an exciting year ahead for the tech industry as IoT, edge computing, 5G and artificial intelligence continue to be top of mind. What is most exciting is that these are all no longer conceptual - technologies and real world cases are available and picking up steam here in Asia and all over the world. We’ve all seen those short videos about the latest robot that can parkour, or yet another cool Smart City application. Taking them to the next level however, requires the most robust infrastructure – which is where we in Vertiv would come in.
CriticalLink December 2018
The edge of the network continues to be the epicenter of innovation in the data center space as the calendar turns to 2019, with activity focusing on increased intelligence designed to simplify operations, enable remote management and service, and bridge a widening skills gap. This increasing sophistication of the edge is among the data center trends to watch in 2019 as identified by Vertiv experts from around the globe.
Industrial Insights January 2019
The manufacturing industry has long been faced with the pressure of digitization. It’s all about adapting for survival. Faced with the challenge of shifting consumer demands, upkeep of (oftentimes) legacy machinery, and employee safety, now manufacturers need to include IT as part of their overall business strategy. There’s no denying: Manufacturing 4.0 is here to stay.
Industrial Insights November 2018
Data centers and other types of critical infrastructure have traditionally been relatively passive consumers of energy rather than active participants in the grid. There are indications however that this relationship is beginning to shift. The emergence of new technologies to support so-called Critical Energy (CE) services, and a continually shifting energy landscape, could lead to the emergence of more so-called ‘energy prosumers’ that actively manage an interactive and transactive relationship with the energy grid.
Industrial Insights September 2018
The energy grid is evolving and so is the relationship between energy sources and users. With a little investment, your existing power infrastructure could help create additional revenue.
Industrial Insights July 2018
As global population continues to increase, the need for greater mobility and to decongest roads becomes all the more critical. It’s no surprise then that transportation networks (rail, air and/or sea) are now becoming more technology-defined to keep pace with passenger growth and to provide better customer experience.
