Vertiv Boosts Range of Industry-Leading Lithium-ion UPS Portfolio in Latin America

9/12/21

Vertiv™ Liebert® PSI5 Lithium-Ion single-phase line targets manufacturing, education and edge applications needing long battery life

Mexico, DF [Dec. 8, 2021] – Vertiv (NYSE: VRT), a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, today expanded its portfolio of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems with lithium-ion battery options with Liebert® PSI5 Lithium-Ion line-interactive UPS family. Liebert PSI5 Lithium-Ion is available in 1500, 2200 and 3000VA models, including the industry’s first 1500VA lithium-ion line-interactive tower. Targeted for edge and distributed IT applications, the 120V Liebert PSI5 is available in Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Central America and the Caribbean through local Vertiv sales offices and value added resellers.

In comparison to valve-regulated lead acid (VRLA) batteries, lithium-ion batteries have up to 3x longer battery life, perform better at higher temperatures, are smaller, lighter and deliver longer runtimes. The Liebert PSI5 Lithium-Ion family will provide approximately 7-9 minutes of battery backup at full load compared to an estimated 3-5 minutes for a standard UPS with VRLA batteries.

“The benefits of lithium-ion are undeniable and rapid market adoption has pushed prices down to the point that the total cost of ownership clearly favors lithium,” said Jeff Kessen, senior vice president for global product transformation at Vertiv. “We’ve seen adoption increase steadily in the data center, and as more lithium-ion UPS options become available for edge locations, that pattern is repeating.”

“As digitalization increases in Latin America, many applications are moving to the edge of the network and require reliable power protection,” said Guillermo Maddalena, power management and software solutions offering manager at Vertiv in Latin America. “UPS systems with lithium-ion batteries offer cost and operational benefits, by eliminating on-going site visits to replace failed batteries. Ultimately this means lower costs and higher system availability for critical edge deployments, and a wider range of options for our customers.”

The Liebert® PSI5 Lithium-Ion UPS comes with a five-year warranty on the electronics and battery. It is accompanied by a range of start-up and on-site service options.
