Technology – the new age protégé in remote management

Dr. A S PRASAD •

Re-incarnating business regimes in today’s unsettled world has taken a toll on the retrograded work routines and changed our lives completely. Organizations today are seemingly more comfortable towards remote management be it their workforce, assets or transactions with customers. This has led to technology being the fulcrum in ensuring that the transition from a conventional mind-set to today’s digitized diurnal activities is seamless and smooth. But then what exactly triggered this change? Was it the pandemic or the dependency on technology or the way customers interacted with businesses? Ipso facto, it was all of it.

Well, in this scenario CIOs and IT administrators have become a critical part of the disaster management teams given that the pandemic has accelerated business process automation. Organizations have got increasingly dependent on technology upgrades to stabilize their digital infrastructure spaces. In the bargain, data centers need to be well planned and designed to handle the changes resulting from a shift to a remote working model. Another challenge in the recent times was the reduction in manpower while enabling smooth functioning of businesses.

Remote management is crucial for businesses continuity

As real as it gets, technology is right at the epicentre of business continuity and can work well only if utilized to its fullest potential by organizations. When pondering about the year that passed by, we saw a world that was unprepared for the pandemic right in every sense. From being connected in the physical world every single day to just shutting down offices overnight has led to new work regimes. A common term – “work from home” just defines normal work to organizations today was a result of keeping employees safe as well as continuing business. Seeing people on the digital screens has become an inevitable part of every person’s life which has churned the best of technological advancements.

But then there are critical businesses that can’t afford to slow down for anyone, anything or anytime. And who would take care of the maintenance, monitoring and control of the IT operations. These need human intervention to carry out crucial activities with certain level of expertise. It even becomes difficult to have expertise in every region of the same calibre and experience. The only work around to all of this is Remote management of IT infrastructures.

Now here’s a big opportunity for us in today’s scenario where customers even require remote management of desktops as well. In this gamut of opportunities, it becomes equivocal to address all of them even though the work from home opportunity still beckons. While it is apparent that all answers to these opportunities lies right in front of us – Technology. With the latest advancements in innovation, IT spaces have just shot up levels after another in a short span of time. And it takes a great deal of technological upgrades to keep up. Rather than starting at the inception of a customer requirement, it is empirical that the needs of customers must be anticipated and worked on quickly. In these situations, the first mover advantage always pays off dearly. And this can only be achieved if organizations understand the importance of upgrading with technological advancements.

Reckoning the emerging technology upgrades

With data centers being pushed at their limits more towards the edge of the network, it becomes very essential to ensure that they are always up and running. With this being said, it also implies that the IT spaces are continuously shrinking at the edge with the core business functions being predominant here. Whether it’s the banks, retail outlets, or other edge deployments, majority of the floor-space is always allocated to customer-facing service deliveries. In these situations, it becomes really tricky to accommodate all of the computing requirements in tight spaces. Also, remote monitoring becomes really essential as these spaces need maximum customer interaction with minimum intervention from businesses.

In the end, the only way to move forward is adapt and improvise to create a positive outlook towards customers. With a lot of uncertainties yet await us as the pandemic is still not over, the only way to progress is by utilizing technology as the fulcrum of business operations. This will not only help businesses grow but also explore the potential in the untapped horizons of different markets.

We have come to a phase in today’s world where “Technological innovation is the epitome of every business model in the times to come”.
